Extinct Government - Extinct Government

Extinct Government - Extinct Government
Self-Release E.G.R-ISSUE#5
2005.00.00

Punk is one of those genres that i always feel really inadequate talking about in any great detail, because i'm not a punk fanatic. I don't live the punk lifestyle. So i don't know the nuances that distinguish one sub-genre from another and i can't reference who might influence any particular release, like i read so often from people more in tune with the culture. What I do know is that i love Japanese punk and most of its various sub-genres. Extinct Government, to me, certainly falls within the realm of "hardcore", but this release at least is pretty smooth sounding for hardcore. It's well produced for starters, which is rarely the case, and its less noisy.. more.. i dunno.. streamlined. and the vocals are less aggressive and seem more deliberate and controlled. Not just flat out angry, but more concise. its almost skirting the line between hardcore and melodic punk, except the fact that he never actually sings keeps it feeling more on the hardcore side. regardless, Extinct Government rocks and they can easily slip into just about any punk playlist you feel like tinkering with. For anyone looking for a starting place, the 11th track "Opposite To Nature" is fucking perfect. this song kills. why it's burried so deep in the record is beyond me. if i was putting an album together this is like a track 2 to get you fucking pumped for the rest of the album, or a closer at a show to bring the house down, any day.

Buy It.
