Hey folks. So i have created a completely locked down, invitation only social network. I'd like to invite those of you who have been around and commented and posted and shared stuff in the past. this isn't a place for leechers, but for people who are collectors and sharers. this is for digging up the rare shit and discussing things we find in market places and ebay and so on. its a really nice interface.. maybe a little busy, but once you spend an hour poking around and getting familiar with the format its really rather nice. there's a built in blog with tags for posting content, and there is also a nice forum section so we can have open discussions. everyone who gets invited will have full posting privileges for sharing and discussing. the only thing that i really find lacking is being able to split up the tags on the blog portion... so tagging by year and genre would be mixed in with the artist names in the tag list, which is bothersome.. but not the end of the world (i'm just a little ocd when it comes to sorting and organization). so, who wants to give it a try. at least come in and scope it out.. don't even bother asking for an invite if we haven't communicated in the past. and those of you who i do invite, feel free to invite other trusted sharers that you know. we can discuss all the other things worth discussing once you get on the network.. i'm going to adjust the comment settings here so you can send me your email addresses without worry of them being seen so i can send you an invite.

i realize that a closed network of a small number of people isn't really ideal for some of what us sharers are interested in.. it doesn't fulfill the desire to spread the word of amazing music to others on a larger more public scale. but maybe its worth it for now, while things are so messed up on the internet, to collectively start building a library of knowledge that we can look to transplant at a later time. i'm also really excited about the possibility of beginning dialogues about who plans to buy what and all the cool things that we stumble upon on the internet. i hope this is of interest.

well, several days of hard work just went down the drain. someone didn't like what i was doing so much, and all the mediafire stuff just went down. i think this place is fucked.

this blog will be removed shortly. 10 more will take it's place. more networks will be uncovered. until you can stop being greedy and put together a business model that let's the world hear your music for reasonable and affordable prices, we will find ways to share it.

before this blog disappears a notice will be left to direct you all to a new database. this will NOT be a music sharing database, but an informational database concerning everything i have uncovered about the world of japanese music. if i'm not allowed to share, at least i can pass on my knowledge so others can try to uncover it from the used bins and online markets, which don't provide artists with a single penny. you're welcome and fuck you very much.

Another Boring Update

sorry for no new content the last couple days. i've been busy dealing with zipping and uploading old content and other bullshit. all requests thus far are either already updated or in the next batch that will upload in the next 24 hours. for a quick look at what's reupped, just click me. also in the next 24-48-72 hours, all 60's and 70's content should be updated. then i'll focus on the 80's as well as any additional requests that come in. well over 700 files are already uploaded. while this barely puts a dent in it, its still a significant amount of goodies. i suspect it will take 2-3 months to hit full capacity (that is, my entire collection, not just what is already posted here on the blog, which is about 1/3 of that). but let's hope for 2. all blog content should be updated in 4-6 weeks is my guess. that's if i keep this pace.. which.. who knows. but don't worry, there will be new content on a regular basis as well. so don't go anywhere! i'll get you a couple new records tomorrow or sumthin'.

what a pain in the ass this rip was. i generally try to rip as close to 0 db as i can before normalizing.. this track fooled me 3 times, getting louder and louder dynamically as the track went on. it also was pretty poppy. removed as many as i could stand. but, it was worthwhile, and i didn't exactly mind listening to the first track repeatedly. what a great sound these guys conjured up. deep dark new wave with lady voice. fans of lady new wave rejoice at this find. its really great.

this is a haunting little record. dreamy in every way. i dunno if anyone has the skills to check the scribble shit characters on the cover. i've only ever seen this referred to as theatre of cyrene.. but i've seen a lot of records that were misrepresented just 'cuz no one ever bothered to deal with characters if there was an english title involved as well. so i just want to double check. it probably means the same thing, but in the off-chance that it is a proper/different artist name or record title, i'd like to know.

i've seen this sported as both lacrymosa and chihiro s. for the artist name. i blame the front cover and whoever chihiro s is for stroking his ego. The back of the sleeve clearly indicates that Chihiro S. is a MEMBER OF Lacrymosa, though he does seem to be the mastermind. so his name on the front generates confusion. it also doesn't help that they have a song called lacrymosa on the same release (i have always hated it when bands name a song after themselves). I slept on the disection of the first two tracks, so they are together. but the first track is simply an instrumental intro that leads directly an effortlessly into the main song.. so i'm not going to lose sleep over it. anyway, the first song is a beautifully eerie orchestrated prog rock tune, instrumental style. the second side introduces some beautiful lady vocals to a mellower less-time-signature-masturbatory neoclassical tune.

their name is pretty fitting, with a chaotic sort of new wave noise going on. repetitious discord is their bread and butter on the first track, but they slam it together into a pretty satisfying slop. i think. but i'm crazy too. the other two tracks bring it back to a pretty healthy new wave swing with a playful vibe as their backbone.

this is a really nice little single from a nobody band called Aether. Translation of the characters as far as I'm aware is Ether, but i can see on discogs that there is an entry on the same label as this with specific credits for Aether, so it must be printed as such somewhere on that other release. Anyway, the production on this one is muddy.. demo kinda quality. but there is a definite charm to the music. its like if Penpals did new wave, this would be it. and that makes me happy.

Well, it was friday after all, so while i did spend the day finishing up some ripping, duty called to go out on the town and take in some live music. so no new records yet. but tomorrow you'll get a bomb drop of some relatively unknown shit. it seems though that either i somehow saved all my noisy 7"ers for last, or my stylus is already toast (i don't see how this is possible its expensive and still relatively few hours... will have to test tomorrow). so there are some clicks and pops... more than usual in some of these records, but you know what? that's what records sound like, and unless you wanna track down your own copies (god speed), this will have to do!! (they don't sound THAT bad!). so get your juices flowing for The Privates, The Jumps, La Pshca, Ether, Lacrymosa, Pigeon, Radio Insane, Theatre of Cyrene, Wakakusa and more! plus lots of updated links for old content. Alright, punkers, here's the current situation. I'm hopeful about MF. It amuses me greatly that if you pay for the account you get a bandwidth cap, but if you don't, you don't (at least apparently so). What a crock of shit. I have severely surpassed the bandwidth cap of a premium account, and everything is still rockin'. So for now I am hopeful. I understand that MF's longevity is questionable, as it could be taken down any time with what happened to MU. But for now, we will move forward.

So rebuilding has begun. I am excited and also overwhelmed. A great deal of my uploading to MU went up on a campus connection so i could upload my collection very rapidly. I no longer have that option, so it will take a very very long time to provide links for the entire back catalog. While this is happening I have over 700 GB of music sitting on a hard drive that hasn't even entered into my official collection yet, as it has yet to be sorted, tagged, archived, etc. It eats away at me all the amazing goodies sitting in that collection that i have yet to officially uncover. *sigh*

Fortunately, I can see the bottom of my 7" pile, as i just ripped 5.. i think i only have 5ish more that need ripping. i'm hoping to have all of these on the blog by tomorrow or the day after. Then Its on to the rest of the LP's.. i don't dare guess how many of those i have to get through. 50-75 maybe? i dunno.

i also still have 8-10 amazing vhs that need to be converted, however, with MF's limitations on filesize, i'm not sure if these will be postable here, and may have to serve a much smaller audience at jps.

So, there's lots of work to be done here. I hope you all enjoy your stay, and all the delicious tunes. don't be scared to share them elsewhere. Thanks for so many amazing messages. I haven't responded to everybody necessarily as they get lost in the queue of things to do, but i have seen them all, and you are all awesome.

with much shame i must admit that i cut the tracks incorrectly on this the first time around. Generally i look at gaps for the song breaks. it just happened that there was an unusually long pause in the middle of the first track, and then a bleed between tracks 3 and 4, so in a hurry, i overlooked the incorrect splice. this has been corrected. *shame*

Here's one of Lion Merry's earlier releases (still desperately want more of his material... *nudge nudge wink wink*) The dude was just a genius, no way around it. He would make appearances and play with the who's who of the new wave world during the 80's and his solo shit is mind meltingly awesome. Its minimalist and avant garde at times, but even then, there's undeniable atmosphere and conjuring that most abstracters never achieve. This guy is king. *UPDATE* So the correct title for this album is Merrinology (whereas i previously had it as self titled) and the date on the lion merry discography has it as listed above in '83. Previously it was marked as 82 as that is the only date given on the record (its copyright)

this is a single version of the tune "Remember Eyes" from the Around + Around album on Portrait Records. The mix and composition are a bit different, and a little more lively i think, and it's my favorite DOB song of all time, so yippie!. the other two tracks are pretty slick too. DOB started as a new wave fused synth pop group. they were (are?) around for a long time, and would cover a lot of musical territory, but this early stuff i think is my favorite.

Here's a nice find from another random grab. This is a beautifully orchestrated pop wave record. not unlike corina corrina, mio finds herself in a sort of ambiguous genre. she'd fit in beautifully with many of the new wave groups like masakosan, and jun togawa, but her neoclassical soundscape keeps her more in the pop realm with artists like chiwaki mayumi. it looks like this was actually rereleased on cd in '90 with 4 extra tracks, and i see another album called Chloe on amazon from '89. if anyone's got these, i'd love a copy!

if you liked the last chiroline record, wait till you hear their first one. with a subtitle on the spine saying 'for camp fire use only', these girls are out to set some moods. i don't exactly think of camping.. and i don't know where you'd get a turntable when you're camping.. but these ladies deliver some first class atmosphere. from the haunting swing of the first track, to beautiful lullabies and bouncy girl folk, i'm a big fan of this record.

fresh off the turntable, here's an unknown group Grogg Clock. got a good vibe from the cover and rear pic and it was a cheap buy, so i went for it. Its a real slowed down, mellow-vibed, blues influenced hard rock album with a pretty capable female vocalist. could easily fit into the catalogue over at Transistor Records, but it was released on some indie Electric Lamp label EL-001.

here is another addition to the red hot burning hell series. loved the first two to bits and would absolutely love to get my hands on more volumes of this. if you've got any, please please share! these releases really dig up some shit i've never heard of, which is awesome. love more exposure to japanese metal, old and new. here we have all unknowns to me. corvus is a driving raw black metal type group. larme dange is a power metal visual kei group. plasma jet is very similar to corvus, but rip it up some some lady black vocals. very nice. subhumanrace is a more modern main stream sounding metal, bordering on screamo territory in the vocals, but some slick thrash riffs thrown into the mix keep me more than interested. screaming demon are another vk styled group and have a nice raw dark gothic kinda vibe to their vk-tinged sound. the vocals are absolutely all over the place between 80's hair screams, downright growls and more standard melodic passages. the music shifts just as much. i'm intrigued to say the least. Lujaneeza brings aboard the synths to rock some low budget power, complete with ripping double bass and female vocals. mmm. Nn~dura round out the comp. is that a siren sample i hear? yes it is. followed by some bangin riffs and some unique vocals. i'm not gonna lie. i could mosh to this. needless to say, if you've got any material by any of these groups, you better give it to me. you owe me!

Membous is a group i have been hunting for for a little while now and was shitcited to see them pop up on rakuten for pretty sweet prices. i first heard them on one of the Benten comps a long while back. then realized that they were affiliated with the Gyuune label also and was like, yeah, i need that shit. they popped up on another comp i found from childish soup, which seems to be a bit of a spinoff from gyuune. So now i finally have their albums, and they don't disappoint. delicious lo-fi dual girl action with sweet mellow musical background to some cute and relaxing melodies. this was co-released by Gyuune and People's records. an odd combination.

there's something about the nectars that just makes me happy. they rock that delicious upright wooden bass sound to perfection, landing them in a rockabilly genre, but the melody of the vocals and the energy of the music keeps them from being just another rockabilly band. these guys have long been one of my favorites from some of the psychobilly comps i've dug up over the years, and i have finally gotten my hands on one of their two(?) albums. don't miss it. from an independent Rock'n'Rod Record label NCT-N001.

snagged this for pennies when i saw it released on the same obscure (i would assume) label as Supersnazz's early 'groove in' album, Field Works. what i found was a nice little single of flowing, airy rock that is definitely representative of its era. Reminds me of a lot of the sounds of British rock that were happening around this time, like suede or somethin'.

picked this off someone else's blog quite a long time ago and almost shit to find this. You may recognize corina corrina from a record i ripped and posted a long while back. this definitely sounds like a sort of live recording and its mostly piano and vocal based, but its definitely got a rock sort of backbone to it with the rhythm. I feel like Shiina Ringo was probably familiar with CC. While it doesn't really fit either the new wave or pop tags, you can assume that if you like any of the 80's material by female fronted new wave or pop acts, you should give this a try.

jps is cool, but the inefficiencies of torrenting are already pissing me off.. plus there are less people there than there were here, especially people specifically after the kind of stuff i was offering (i get only 1/10-1/5 the number of downloads there than i did here).

and while i'm trying to figure out how it could be possible to continue here.. here is a real treat. a virtually unknown cd released by the classic new wave goth band Geil. I might go so far as to say that this is my favorite material by them as well. some really beautiful songs on here. It seems to be an independent sort of release. the only label info in an ambiguous 'preflight' on the disc itself and a small LW-001 cat # also only on the disc itself. the packaging is nice though with some cool pics of the band members. Its most likely from '88 or '89, but i can't say for sure

really glad i took a chance on this one not knowing anything about it. how could you turn down that album cover? what i found was a crazy sci-fi synthpop record with adorable vocals, great atmosphere and super amounts of hook throughout the album. i am amused by the band too.. three attractive young ladies and one old dork way in the background. haha. nice. i am also amused that there is a korean group of super sexy ladies that go by the same name 20 years later and even use 'we are spica' as their slogan for facebook (barf). the third track (among several others) is a track i will return to constantly. if you like anything about the 80's, download this one.

chiwaki has basically become one of my favorite pop singers overnight. i had ripped the menu lp that is here on the blog quite some time ago and really loved it. chiwaki was the vocalist for them. i'm hoping to track down the rest of their material soon.. but if anyone has any please pass it on! so i just got to ripping her solo material and man oh man, i think i'm in love. not only does she present herself in that crazy 80's pop diva new wave crazy costume way, but her music is just totally stellar. its got catch and pop and attitude and i just love it. i haven't really heard any of her 90's output yet, but her appearance changed drastically to a much mellower, normal looking approach, instead of the gloves and fishnets and corsets and all the other sexy costuming she sported in the 80's.. so i'm kinda assuming her music mellowed out too. who knows if it was a major label move, or just a maturity thing. i haven't really looked into it. she would later become part of the super bad ass all girl super group mean machine with chara, yuki and yukarie (from jagatara and the thrill) as the guitarist (as each girl took a position that they don't normally play). anyway.. i'm in love with chiwaki. i dare you not to be. if anyone has more of her stuff, i'd love it. these 4 albums are all i've got for now, though i do have a lead on buying the 'gloria' album in a couple weeks.
